How it's made
Raw → cut → finished. Every piece at Wampum World starts with quahaug (quahog) shell from the Atlantic coast — by-products of clam processing after the meat is used.
1. Shell
Thick shells with a strong purple band on the inner edge are selected. The purple is the natural color of the shell, not dye. White shell from the same coast is worked alongside it.
2. Cut & polish
Shell is cut into beads, cabochons, and carved shapes, then ground and polished so the purple and white show clearly. Ideal purple is scarce, so every workable fragment matters.
3. Set in metal
Finished jewelry is set in costume, sterling silver, or gold. Some manufacturing steps happen overseas so the work stays affordable; quality and your satisfaction are guaranteed.
No two shells are alike — the bands, thickness, and color shift from piece to piece.
